What is Beatspell mode?
Beatspell is a new mode introduced in Rhythm Heaven Groove. Before each stage, you choose up to four spell cards from your unlocked collection. During the stage, each spell watches for its trigger condition — a streak of Perfect inputs, a phrase boundary, a missed beat — and fires automatically when met.
There are five spell types:
- Rhythm spells — Modify how inputs are counted or replayed.
- Shield spells — Absorb mistimed or missed inputs.
- Speed spells — Temporarily alter stage tempo, increasing the score ceiling.
- Recovery spells — Restore rank after a bad input.
- Score spells — Multiply score during streaks of clean play.
Phrase structure and when spells fire
Most Beatspell stages are divided into repeating 4-bar phrases. Spells with phrase-boundary triggers fire at the end of each phrase — typically every 8–16 beats. Learning to anticipate the phrase structure lets you plan which beat to push for a streak and which to shield.
Scoring in Beatspell mode
Beatspell mode has its own score multiplier system layered on top of the normal rank (OK / Superb). Score spells like Perfect Chain can double your score for each run of four consecutive Perfect inputs. Shield spells prevent the multiplier from resetting, making them high-value in score builds even if they have no direct score effect.
Build strategy overview
The Build Planner lets you try combinations and see active synergies before you commit. A reliable starter build:
- 1× Shield (Rhythm Shield or Echo Guard) — mistake insurance
- 1× Recovery (Recover Beat) — rank restoration
- 2× Score or Rhythm — offensive upside once your shield fires
As you get comfortable, replace the recovery slot with a synergy pair from the rhythm/score columns.
Beatspell FAQ
What is Beatspell mode?
Beatspell is a new mode in Rhythm Heaven Groove where you equip up to four spell cards before a stage. Each spell activates automatically when its trigger condition fires, modifying your score, shields, or rhythm behaviour.
When should I start playing Beatspell mode?
Only after you can Medal 15–20 solo stages reliably. Beatspell adds a layer of complexity that will distract beginners from learning the core timing fundamentals.
Do Beatspell cards affect the timing windows?
Some speed-type spells modify the effective timing window as a side-effect of increasing stage speed. Shield spells absorb inputs without changing the window itself.
Can I use the Build Planner offline?
Yes. The Build Planner runs entirely in your browser and saves your build to localStorage. No internet connection is required after the page loads.
