Is there online multiplayer?

No. Rhythm Heaven Groove does not support online multiplayer. All group play happens locally — up to 4 players on a single Nintendo Switch, in the same room. No Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for any multiplayer feature.

This is a common search question, so the short answer is here at the top: if you want to play with friends remotely, the game does not have that option.

What multiplayer offers

Multiplayer is a separate mode from the main solo game, with its own library of over 30 purpose-built stages. Stages fall into two categories:

Multiplayer stages behave differently from their solo-mode counterparts — the cues and scoring are adapted for shared play, so prior experience with the solo version of a stage does not guarantee success in multiplayer.

Rings — the multiplayer reward

Instead of Medals, strong performances in multiplayer earn rings. Rings work as the multiplayer equivalent of the solo Medal system — they mark a clean group performance and unlock further multiplayer stages as you collect them.

Multiplayer FAQ

Does Rhythm Heaven Groove have online multiplayer?

No. Rhythm Heaven Groove does not support online multiplayer. All multiplayer modes require players to share a single Nintendo Switch system in the same room.

How many players can play at once?

Up to 4 players can play together on one system. Each player uses their own controller or Joy-Con. Additional accessories may be required — sold separately.

How is multiplayer different from solo mode?

Multiplayer stages are purpose-built for shared play — they behave differently from their solo counterparts. Co-operative stages require the group to succeed together; competitive stages score each player individually. You earn rings instead of medals for strong performances.

Do I need Nintendo Switch Online to play multiplayer?

No. All multiplayer in Rhythm Heaven Groove is local and does not require a Nintendo Switch Online membership.

What is the best multiplayer stage for beginners?

Cake Wait is widely recommended for a full group of four — its timing challenge scales naturally with more players and creates a chaotic, fun atmosphere without requiring prior experience.

Can I play multiplayer stages in solo mode?

Multiplayer stages are separate from the main solo game. They are accessed through the multiplayer mode and are not available as single-player challenges.
